Calibre 1040 Site Improvement: Collector’s Guide to Movements

Posted by

When I launched this site in September 2016 I omitted what I now realize was a necessary feature: a guide to the movement I named the site after. I’m not a watchmaker, so I felt that I couldn’t add any technical knowledge to the subject and I stuck with the stuff I knew and set the movements aside for the time being.

Though I’m happy to share as I learn, this website is a primarily a way of me organizing the notes I’ve taken over time, and I’ve realized that I do have quite a bit of notes, links, and pictures shared that might be helpful to others. If nothing else, just having it all of it in a single page might be useful. So I’ve added the collector’s guide to cal. 1040 and 1041 movements.

In it you’ll find:

  • Some bits of history
  • A table comparing and contrasting cal. 1040 and 1041, along with the base calibres, Lemania 1340 and 1341
  • Photos of the movements and how to tell them apart
  • What to look for – both in terms of originality/correctness and condition
  • Links to other resources
  • An embedded PDF of the actual technical guide for cal. 1040 from Swatch

The guide should be easy enough to find. Like bezel guide, I’ve added it to the main menus and slider on the page, even though there are no sub-pages. I hope you find it useful, and as I come across more information I’ll update the guide as needed.
