Two Years of calibre1040.com

Posted by

Calibre1040.com has now been live for two full years and I just wanted to say a quick and sincere thanks to my readers and instagram followers for all the comments, questions, and feedback. It’s been a real pleasure meeting, interacting, and learning from fellow collectors from around the world!

When my site went live in the fall of 2016, my hope was that it would be out there to be found by collectors researching one of the watches in the 1040 family. My measure of success would be that my site would be a first-page Google search result when searching for the obvious keywords like “Omega 1040”, “Seamaster 176.007“, or “Speedmaster 125“. By that measure, it has been a success pretty much from the start. My site isn’t always the top result, but for just about all the test searches I’ve done it appears on the first page, and I’m proud of that.

Somewhere in the myriad of “how-to” articles about blogging, I read that to get your site to the top of the results you need to publish a few times per month and to have relevant content. I know the content was not going to be an issue – it is a pretty niche and focused topic after all. I did pretty good at posting frequently during the first year too – but lately I’ve slowed down. Thankfully that hasn’t hurt my Google results standing. Apparently the algorithm realizes that my content is right for most people doing a specific search on one of these watches.

A big reason I no longer post as often is that I have shared just about all of what I know on this topic. Honestly, there isn’t much new to report in the world of 45 year old chronographs. The other part is that I’ve been busy with other things outside the hobby. Such is life.

I do promise that if something pops up that is previously unseen (by me) or otherwise interesting, I’ll post about it, so keep following along. I also still need a gold-plated 176.005 and a gold-plated 176.007 to complete my 1040 collection, and I’ll update my collection page when I add them.

If you have any burning questions, send them my way. I may post some Q&A or “mailbag” type posts if I get enough questions.

Thanks again for a fun two years, and here’s to many more.
